Origin of the word communication

Etymologically, the word communication has two meanings, which are at the root of its success. The first meaning (which appeared in the 12th century) comes from Latin. It refers to the idea of communication, of sharing, which is what we're looking for in communication: the quest for the other, the idea of sharing. The second meaning appears in the 16th century, meaning transmission, diffusion. It's linked to the development of techniques, starting with the first of these: printing, communicating.
