What is a logo?
A logo (or logotype) is a graphic symbol that represents a company, brand, organization or even an event. It can be made up of text (such as the brand name), shapes, symbols or a combination of these elements.

- Logotype (or wordmark): stylized text only (e.g. Coca-Cola, Google)
- Monogram: stylized initials (e.g. IBM, HP)
- Pictorial symbol: an image or icon (e.g. Apple, Twitter)
- Abstract logo: a unique geometric shape (e.g. Nike)
- Emblem: text inside a symbol (e.g. Harley-Davidson)
Why is a logo important?
- Visual identity: the face of the brand. The logo makes it easy to recognize.
- Professionalism: a good logo gives a good first impression and shows that the company is serious.
- Differentiation: it sets you apart from the competition.
- Visual memory: a well-designed logo is easy to remember. The logo is often remembered even before the company name!
- Brand consistency: serves as a common thread across all media (website, business card, products, social networks, etc.).
- Values and message: the logo’s style can convey emotions or values (modernity, tradition, luxury, simplicity, etc.).
